What is a pay-to-rank bid leaderboard?
A pay-to-rank leaderboard is a single public list where position is decided by money, not by votes, reviews or an algorithm. Everyone sees the same order, and the only way to move up is to bid more than the listing above you. That is what people mean when they say they got “outbid”: someone paid more, so their spot slid down.
How the bidding works
On smallbid.lol every bid is in Pakistani rupees, starting at Rs 100. Rank is the bid: the highest confirmed amount is #1, second highest is #2, and so on. If two listings hold the same amount, the earlier bid stays higher. Raising your own bid replaces your old amount instead of adding to it.
Why bid for a spot at all
- Attention: the board is public, ordered and easy to skim, so the top rows get most of the clicks.
- Transparency: no ad auction black box — you can see exactly what the #1 spot costs right now.
- Local pricing: rupee bids mean a small Pakistani project can realistically hold the top spot instead of being priced out by dollar budgets.
Pay-to-rank vs paid ads
Paid ads charge per click and stop the moment your budget ends. A pay-to-rank listing is a one-time rupee amount that keeps its position until someone outbids it, and the amount itself is visible to everyone. It is closer to a public auction for shelf space than to a performance campaign.
